Tips on going out in Tijuana

You cannot smoke in the street. You cannot smoke on the centre. Bring patches if you smoke! You can buy cigarettes (not in the centre, if you go out)

Watch out for open manholes in the pavements!

You can’t change money at the recovery centre. But you probably don’t need to – send that most people look at me and decide “dollars”.

15% tips for waiting staff is standard; wages aren’t great, so a decent tip is appreciated.

Avoid ice no matter what they say, and only drink bottled water that you yourself have opened when outside the recovery centre.

It’s probably best to avoid green salads unless from the recovery centre.

Driver to go into Tijuana (for you to have 3-4 hours exploring) – $40

Driver to Rosarito (for you to have 3-4 hours on the beach) – $70

In both instances the driver doesn’t go very far away and you can summon them back quickly if you need to.
